Energy 101: What You Need to Know about Energy and How it Affects Your Life

Your vibe attracts your tribe.  We’ve all heard that, right?  What exactly does it mean?  It could mean that how you outwardly present yourself makes others take notice and potentially approach you.  Like the time I was wearing my baby in a ring sling and another mom struck up a conversation about attachment parenting because I was “wearing the uniform”, as she so aptly put it.  This does happen from time to time but it doesn’t quite get down into the nitty gritty of what it all actually means.  Let’s back up for a second and look at some general sciencey stuff so we understand better.

Everything in existence is made up of energy.  Light is energy.  Sound is energy.  Heat is energy.  All the intangible things we learned about in elementary science class are energy, right?  Let’s expand on that.  Everything else around you is also energy.  That means that your house, car, food, money, and all the other tangible things you can touch are also energy, including YOU.   (Hang onto that thought because we are going to circle back to it in a minute.)

Energy is also a vibration.  It can be measured by its frequency, or the rate at which it is vibrating.  (Don’t worry, we are almost past the sciencey part of this.)  So that means that energy can have different frequencies or “speeds” of vibration.  Since we are energy and everything around us is energy, we are influenced by our surroundings.  On a beautiful day you might feel completely at peace by going for a walk outside and interacting with that energy.  Or if you are in a crowd at a concert, you might get really revved up by the music being played and everyone dancing.  You are actively interacting with the energies all around you every single day.

This means that you life isn’t simply “happening” to you.  Um…what???  You read that right!  You are creating your life based on the energetic influences you encounter every day.  If someone cuts me off in traffic because they are panicking about being on time for work, I can either choose to interact with that energy and get upset, or I can choose to allow that energy to bounce right off of me and allow myself to remain peaceful.  On the other hand, there are people that always make us feel calmer just by being around them.  You are choosing to interact with their energy because it makes you feel good. I’m incredibly blessed to have a few of these people in my life and I’m so grateful for the time we get to share together.

Changing your frequency will not only make you feel better, it can have unlimited positive influences on your physical and mental health. So how do we use this information to make our lives better?  The great news is that it is super easy!

  1.  Meditate.  It’s not just the latest trend among us hippies.  It makes a substantial difference to your physical and mental health.  It doesn’t have to take long.  Start by meditating for 5 minutes per day and gradually increase your time.  I find adding 5 minutes every week or every other week is a good guide, but do what works for you.  If you are new to meditating, try using an app.  There are several to choose from and they all offer similar features.  My favorite is Insight Timer.  It’s free, offers guided meditations as well as music and timers, and has an incredible amount of options to choose from. (I have no affiliation with this app.  I just like it.)
  2. Listen to frequencies.  If you know anything about music, you know about solfeggio frequencies.  These are wonderful frequencies to start with.  One of my favorites to start with is this track with the first 9 solfeggio frequencies.  You can listen while you’re working, driving, cooking, sleeping, or just sitting around.  No matter where you listen to them, they make a big difference.  **Be advised that I do not own the rights to this track or any others I may recommend.
  3. Stay positive.  Try to see the bright side of every situation.  Nothing has to be “bad”.  Instead, when something happens that you don’t like ask yourself, “Is it a lesson or a blessing?”  I find that this works most of the time for me, but sometimes I need a little pep talk to keep me going.  I will often reach out to someone in my tribe for support, but if someone isn’t available I listen to affirmations.  Sometimes I listen to ones that are very zen and make me feel like I’m one with the universe like this one, and other times I have no patience for that.  On those days when I’m really worked up, I go for a more sassy affirmation .  This affirmation has profuse profanity but it gets the job done.  If profanity isn’t your thing, please do not click the link.  If you do choose to listen, be advised it is not safe to listen to in most work environments or around children.

When you take a minute to observe your environment and the people you choose to have in your life, you will begin to see how these energies influence you.  It’s ok to pick and choose what/who should stay in your life and what/who has to go to give you peace.  You should always do what feeds your highest good.

I wish you all the peace in the universe, and abundant blessings for all eternity.
